At 02:07 am, November 19th, 2018, the 42nd and 43rd BeiDou Navigation Satellites were successfully launched onboard a Long March-3B launch vehicle (with an Expedition-1 upper stage) in 'two satellites with one rocket' mode at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. The 42nd and 43rd BeiDou Navigation Satellites are the 18th and 19th of the BDS-3 family.
This successful launch represents that the basic BDS-3 constellation has successfully been deployed, including 18 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites and 1 Geostationary Orbit (GEO). BDS-3 is planned to provide basic navigation services to countries and regions participating the Belt and Road initiative, and to put into operation before the end of 2018. The BDS will be completed by the end of 2020, providing accurate and efficient navigation service around the world.
Since November 5th, 2017, China's BDS constellation has completed 11 launches within one year, while 19 BDS-3 satellites and 1 BDS-2 satellite have been successfully sent into space.
BDS-3 will extend its coverage to the whole world, and its positioning accuracy will be improved to 2.5 to 5 meters, 1 to 2 times higher than BDS-2, and this will greatly improve global service capacity of BDS constellation.
